The Big C is an upcoming series of Showtime network that will start from 16th August, 2010, with the sixth season debut of Weeds. It is created by Darlene Hunt and starring Laura Linney, who is three time nominee of Academy Award and also winner of Emmy Award. Laura Linney, Oliver Platt, John Benjamin, Simon Kassianides and William Duffy are stars of this series. The new Big C TV Series is divided in 9 Episode. The whole series about a woman (Cathy) diagnosed with cancer.
Synopsis of the Big C TV:
The series delves into the emotional ups and downs of a suburban wife and mother Linney forced to face authenticity yet also find the light side in a dark situation, while managing her immature but well-meaning husband, played by Oliver Platt. Gabourey Sidibe will play a precocious student. The Wire and Luther star Idris Elba will appear in at least four episodes as a love interest for Linney. Brian Cox will appear as Linney’s father and Cynthia Nixon has a playing recurring role as friend of Laura Linney’s character.

Laura Linney as Cathy:
Laura Linney plays role of Cathy in the upcoming Showtime original series, The Big C, with Oliver Platt and Gabourey Sidibe. Linney has won three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe and screen actors Guild Award. She was also nominated for Academy Award and BAFTA Award.
Oliver Platt as Paul:
In The Big C, Oliver Platt plays a role of Cathy’s loveable but immature husband role. He is nominated for American Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award. Paul has no idea about Cathy has cancer and he is determined to get himself back into Cathy’s life.
John Benjamin Hickey as Sean:
John plays Cathy’s eccentric brother’s role. Sean has always been the description of unbridled freedom – no inner conflicts, just comfortable and content – Cathy’s polar opposite. John started his career by making a name for himself on the stages of New York.
Gabourey Sidibe as Andrea:
Gabby plays a role of Andrea in this series. Andrea carries confidence and a spiritedness which makes her stand-out from the other students in the class. When she was cast as the lead role ‘Precious’ in the Lee Daniels film Precious: Based On The Novel “Push” By Sapphire, she was a student pursuing a degree in psychology.
Phyllis Somerville as Marlene
Cathy’s grouchy neighbor, Marlene (Phyllis Somerville) becomes a sudden friend for Cathy. Both women feel left out and aggravated, and despite their large age difference, they begin to work jointly to get through life. Phyllis Somerville’s first Equity job was at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. She played number of treasured roles including ‘Wilma’ in Over Here (Schubert); ‘Hannah’ in The Spitfire Grill (Playwrights Horizons); ‘Helen’ in Happiness (Lincoln Center); etc.
