“Spartacus: Blood and Sand” is the title of first season of Spartacus. The title of the second season is anticipated to be “Spartacus: Vengeance.” This show story is about the stars Australian newcomer Andy Whitfield as a main character and the classic gladiator. Andy Whitfield is being sold into slavery at a gladiatorial school and then after a Thracian fighting he returns to his wife.

Spartacus Season 2 Cast:
Andy Whitfield is main character and Erin Cummings (Dollhouse) will play the role of Spartacus’ wife Sura. Manu Bennett (30 Days of Night, The Condemned) takes on the role of Crixus – the top Gladiator. Peter Mensah (300, Avatar) is Doctore, Batiatus’ most loyal and trusted slave. Antonio Te Maioha (Xena: Warrior Princess, Legend of the Seeker) will play Barca, Batiatus’ bodyguard and hit man. Craig Parker (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Legend of the Seeker) plays Glaber who blames Spartacus for his failed military campaign, and Nick E. Tarabay (Crash, The Sopranos) will play Ashur, a former gladiator who is now the Gladiator bookie.
Starz Entertainment EVP, Programming, Stephan Shelanski said, “We couldn’t be happier with the first season. Spartacus delivers on all levels — action, characters, intrigue, romance and excitement.” Then he added that Spartacus is the most ambitious original project they have ever undertaken, and speaks to the commitment to their subscribers to provide truly original programming along with their unmatched lineup of theatrical features.
Well, that’s a relief that the season 2 will come and it will be awesome. According to Cable Network official announcement 6 week prequel series – Spartacus is going to air this summer with limited appearances by star Andy Whitfield who is finishing treatments for cancer.
New York Magazine’s Vulture blog said that Starz is considering a “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” prequel miniseries in order to have something “to fill their January hole.”
Spoiler ALERT : Andy is doing great and that he and the show is going forward with shooting season 2 so expect a full season starting winter 2011. Spartacus season 2 story is being kept under veil of secrecy. It is not ruin as season one. The season 2 will be including 13 installments. Its shooting is scheduled to start in next few months in New Zealand.

Just watched final episode of season 1.. Absouletly amazing!!! If you have not seen Spartacus, it is most definately worth a watch!! The first few episodes are a little flowery, but once you get into it KAPOW!

I always thought Glaber was under-used, I welcome him back for season two as they chase Spartacus around as he invents guerilla war-fare…Ilythia will be back…Ashur ooo I can’t wait..must say I will Mus Batiatus..some scheming mfer…Get well soon Andy BTW since noone knows how Spartacus died the writers have more lee way to play around with their crooked minds unlike Season one, I saw the end from the start but what a show!

I’m so sad season 1 is over. The finale, Kill Them All, was FANTASTIC! I got so into this show. It wasn’t what I expected, but turned out to be better! I will be counting the days once the announce when season 2 will premier!

I must admit I was very reluctant to watch it, heard it was extreamly bloody to the point of over used & frankly I could not even emagine the guy from the mummy playing anything but a whiny little wurm… & lucy lawless coomon so I was in no hurry to see this, when I finally saw it on netflix, bored for something differant I was hook in the first 30mins & never stopped watching till the end of 13… Now by Jupiters Cock I want more, everyone in this from the writers to the special effects & camera work was amazing… My biggest concern is the epicness of what spartacus became beyond being a slave & gladiator, can they hold that up & make it believable & the back door politics? How is that going to work from here out? Can’t wait to find out… Awesome stuff !!

I enjoyed the first show and the last two or three. The rest were fine, but seemed to be slow getting to what you knew was coming. I was surprised there was more male full frontal nudity than female, since I’m guessing 90% of the viewers are male.
Since they are looking for alternatives while Andy’s availability is determined, it seems like a prequel would be the perfect remedy. Show what happened at the ludus before Spartacus got there. You could show Crixus becoming champion, why there was enmity between the two luduses, and you get to keep Ken Berry (yes I know) and Xena, some of our favorite actors around for another season.

i forqot to say thaat i cried eachtime someone i cared about died . when barra & varro died i cried like a little baby .. im not even qonna deny it lol the show gets soo intense & i also cried when Crixus and Naevia finally saw eachother & she got her hair cut off & crixus got whipped. i had to shed a tear .. also when SURA died in spartacus’s armss . cried too lol & when Pietros was crying bcause he thought barca left him.. then he gets beatin up & commits suicide, i cried soo much lol i miss those characters so much :/

The show has everything – the ‘sensuality’, physical (fighting scenes) and plot. I love that Illythia, her husband the Senator and Asher should come into season 2. All the women on that show encourage me to keep up my body – everyone is amazing! In addition, in response to a previous comment, I do think more men watch this than women, but I havent known any of my female friends/family who after I’ve introduced the show to, wasnt hooked! There’s a lot of women I know outside of that who watch the show. Just like someone reminded, there was more male front nudity than women: IT’S ABOUT TIME!!
Having season 2 as a prequel maybe anticlimatic – I like that Spartacus grew throughout season 1 + wasnt such a hot head as he was as a gladiator. He matured but never lost his anger/revenge. He was fearless and I loved that about him. I hope that if season 2 isnt a prequel, they also bring that slave that was dedicated to him: she was good too! 1 of the best shows I’ve seen in awhile that hooked me instantaneously! I love Spartacus and I hope that the creators keep all the originality and dynamic drama in tact.

Hi there, spatarcus season 1 has really driven me even more crazy watching it till 3 pm every single night of three to finish it up. While watching, I sometimes missed breathing n moving n almost shouting as if I had been in the situations being watched. Love affairs were not that much interest of mine though, but everything in the season 1. I have watched troy, 300, before bc, warriors,… but sparacus is far best. The Season 2 some people have been talking about is a 5 or 6 episode mini-series prequel that tells about doctore and his wife, Ashur, Crixix, the House of Battiatus before the arrival of Spartacus. That is why “dead” people are shown. They couldn’t find a way to work in Varro so he won’t be there. Starz wanted something to tide us over until Andy was ready to film the actual 13-episode Season 2. Now that filming will start this winter, we will have the prequel in January or so and then get Season 2 probably late summer or early winter 2011. I didn’t like ep 1 at all and thought, “Hey, I am not wasting my time on this.” But I decided to watch a couple of more episodes and by ep 3 I was hooked!

First of all i am European and i saw the whole series. This
show has nothing to do with roman society. Gladiator fights where most of the time not to the death but stopped at drawing first blood. This is also logical because gladiator where very expensive in training just like topsporters now today. The only time that gladiators have been fighting to the death was when the coloseum ready for use. This is the time of history we know best. An example on how little we know about gladiator is the sign if a beaten opponent lives or dies thumb or thumb down. This was made for the movie and is not historically correct. We simply don’t know how it was decided. So the series directed by micheal hurst (iolas in hercules) is one big fantasy and soft erotic movie with a lot of blood in it and has totally nothing to do with roman history as suggested at the beginning of every episode.

Jos Koss- this is a television series on the roman times, so you have to expect that it wont match to the full truth of what happened all those years ago 100%!!! As for the show itself i am totally hooked and can not wait for season 2 to begin.. just one suggestion please do not match season 2 without andy as this will destroy the show…. he is the main actor and the main reason ppl will keep coming back to watch Spartacus! The viewers are in love with Andy as Spartacus and to change this will finish the show… i hope Andy recovers well and comes back stronger than ever…

I’ve been a movie buff my entire life, besides the thousands of movies and series in my collection, I have several good series involving rome. gladiator themes,the mini series “Empire” and “Rome” which I was so disappointed as I believe many others were also at it’s cancellation. I know many “GREAT” series that unfortunately got cancelled, yet mediocre or junk series tend to get renewed. Spartacus is my most recently watched series which I really enjoyed, I hope many viewers give it a chance to succeed, by watching some episodes and telling others to do the same as it teaches you history with exciting drama. I wish Andy Whitfield a complete recovery and the entire cast much success for many years of giving great entertainment worth watching. Sterling

I have to say, I’ve waited at least a year to watch the show, because when they did a promo trailer, I thought it was going to theaters. I had no idea it was a STARZ show. I was stumbling upon netflix one day and I saw spartacus- I was so effing excited. Upon watching the first episode I was completely turned off because of the blood and sex. But I’m into history and sexy men, with a touch of politics and tragedy and bam! I kept watching. I feel in love with the show, I can’t wait for the second season, and Spartacus may actually replace my love for True Blood.
My boyfriend and I are hooked, can’t wait for season 2 and yes has to be Andy, he’s made for that role…but about the prequal—not too crazy of it….anyways season should be just as good and too bad they killled off dominus, he would have been great as a slave

i love john hannah ‘s performance in the series , how he pronounces batiatus ,lucy lawless performance was superb one wonders if john hannah is the same man in the mummy sequel.
i never knew he was such a gifted actor ,he made lentius quintus batiatus role a big plus in the movie and i ve watched the season 2 and i must confess i like solonius too he was a calm character with goood reasoning. barca and pietros homosexuals ,with so much committments to each other and criscux and naevia love very touching and also ashur a real villain never to become a gladiator or a brother, i cant wait for season 3 and i miss
