It has been confirmed that actor Mark Pellegrino will play the role of Lucifer who was freed from hell at the end of Season 4. The fifth season is possibly the last season of the show according to creator Eric Kripke.

Eric Kripke told over the years that he has planned for the show to run for five seasons so season 5 is rumored to be the last season. Jensen Ackles told in one interview that at the time Season 4 would be the last, but due to higher ratings, they were signed on for a consequent season. In spite of this, Jensen and Jared have contracts for a Season 6, if the CW picks up the show for another season.

Two things that “Supernatural” will offer a lot in the fifth season are the re-appearance of old faces and a bunch of new but interesting characters.
