HBO’s Boardwalk Empire – Premier, Cast & Trailer

One of the most anticipated new television shows of the fall season, Boardwalk Empire has been started on premium cable network HBO on September 19, 2010. Boardwalk Empire is an American television series based on the novel Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City by Emmy award-winning screenwriter Nelson Johnson. Being directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese, the series is created and written by Terence Winter, who was one of the writers on another little HBO show called The Sopranos.

HBO has released a lengthy behind-the-scenes featurette awaiting the show’s September 19th premiere. On the subject matter of the show, the featurette offers insight from Winter, Buscemi, Scorsese, and others and also how Boardwalk Empire intends to capture one of the most interesting periods of American history.

As if the subject matter of Boardwalk Empire weren’t interesting enough, the talent involved will definitely catch your interest and the show stars the always terrific Steve Buscemi. The pilot episode was directed by none other than Martin Scorsese but he has not been tabbed as the permanent director. Martin Scorsese said that he will be highly involved in the production and direction of the show in the coming months, which gives some hope for those who are awaiting Boardwalk Empire’s release. The series is set in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the Prohibition era.

In general, HBO has put mutually quite a list of impressive contributors, including a world class screenwriting team to go in conjunction with the quality direction. Those who review such things had called the show somewhat dark and very “1920s”. The series features some interesting themes and storylines and all are combined together by HBO in the typical way. The network’s executives are hoping to pull in many of the loyal viewers of that show as it would not be a remake of The Sopranos by any stretch of the imagination. The series has set to air 12 episodes (including the pilot).
